Position Title: Accountant/Payroll Administrator

Salary: $37,740 - $49,920 Annually

Position Summary:

Records and maintains the Tax Collectors accounting records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Maintains a professional working knowledge of governmental accounting practices and policies in interpreting procedures, recording, and reporting transactions, and preparing financial records. Responsible for maintaining employee payroll database and processes payroll-related contributions and reporting in accordance with Federal and State regulations.

  • Maintains the general ledger
  • Prepares and reviews month end close procedures
  • Assists in the preparation of year-end financial statements
  • Drafts, reviews, and posts journal entries ensuring compliance with the Office’s budget and financial procedures, state rules and regulations, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Updates, reviews, and maintains capital assets in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and state rules and regulations
  • Assists in the compilation and preparation of the annual budget and the annual financial report
  • Works with other departments to analyze, gather and compile data, and assist in revenue and expenditure projections
  • Assist in the preparation of accounting policies and procedures
  • Ensures back up for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash receipt recording
  • Processes bi-weekly and supplemental payrolls, including reviewing and correcting timekeeping records
  • Processes payment for payroll related liabilities
  • Reviews and validates annual W-2s for Tax Collector employees
  • Assists with annual open enrollments; processes any changes to employee benefits (as related payroll)
  • Reviews, validates, and processes ACA forms, 1094 and 1095.

Essential Functions:

High School diploma or equivalent supplemented by (4) or more years of professional technical accounting or payroll (with benefits administration) experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience demonstrated journey-level computer literacy with standard software packages (e.g., word processors, spreadsheet applications, email, Internet usage) required. Proficiency using Microsoft Excel required.

  • Possession of a valid State of Florida driver’s license required

Physical Requirements:

Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of lightweight (up to 20 pounds). Tasks may require extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

Environmental Requirements:

Tasks are regularly performed inside without potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
